Waste Gas to Power

Each year, vast quantities of natural gas from upstream oil and bitumen production is flared or vented.  Due to the poor economics and distances from gathering pipelines, conservation of the gas is not possible.  During 2008 in Alberta alone, a total of 40,605 MMcf/year was flared or vented.  While initiatives and incentives to reduce this quantity have been effective over the past decade, significant opportunities remain to capture this wasted asset.

Genalta Power's Fuel Conversion Module (FCM) makes power production from flared or vented gas possible.  Resistant to harsh environmental conditions and able to operate on a variety of fuels, including sour gas, Genalta Power's FCM burns waste gases, that would otherwise be flared or vented directly into the atmosphere, to generate electricity.  Power can be used on-site or sold back to the grid to support corporate and governmental initiatives to conserve gas and generate economical, clean power.

The Genalta Power FCM turbines have much lower emissions and better fuel efficiency than traditional technologies.  Unlike gensets, they are highly durable and capable of operating for extended periods of time without shutdown maintenance.
