Genalta Power's consulting division provides strategic consulting services to clients in the following areas:

Grid Connections

We assist clients with managing the connection of projects (load and/or generation) to the electric energy transmission and distribution systems:

• Applications to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) or electric distribution companies for interconnection
• Negotiation of commercial terms and contracts, including connection agreements
• Requests for proposals in instances where transmission or distribution assets can be competitively procured

Through the process of connecting Genalta Power projects, we understand the challenges government agencies and utilities face when connecting load and generation projects.  We strive to develop strategies that provide for a smooth connection with all parties being cognizant of financial and timing exceptions.

We have assisted load and generation customers with transmission and distribution interconnections in both rural and urban settings.

Regulatory Consulting and Advocacy

Our in-depth understanding of utility regulatory concepts and the Alberta electric energy industry allow us to assist clients with regulatory applications, supporting and testing utility applications and working with government agencies to initiate change. Experience gained through our participation in regulatory and government restructuring processes and our knowledge of key industry operations allows us to assist clients efficiently and cost-effectively. Examples of the services we provide include:

• Applications to the Alberta Utilities Commission and Alberta Environment for project approvals
• Development of expert reports and evidence to support rate applications
• Developing and implementing comprehensive utility rate application intervention strategies including interrogatories, expert and policy evidence, cross examination and development of oral and written arguments
• Use our industry knowledge and networks to assist clients with government advocacy efforts

We utilize client input and our experience and expertise to advocate for an industry structure that is fair, open, competitive and responsive in providing our clients with cost-effective alternatives.

Planning and Strategic Advice

Clients utilize our services to assist with strategic planning and development related to generation project development.  We are comfortable working in teams to ensure the best possible approach is utilized for projects and on-going operations.

Our unique blend of experience and expertise allows us to assist clients with operations requirements, including contract management, energy management and financial settlement services.

We have delivered numerous training courses to both public and client specific audiences. In addition, we have presented at several industry conferences and forums.
